I have over thirteen years of healthcare experience in various organizational settings including: hospitals, residential treatment centers, acute care facilities, group homes, public school systems and private residential housing. My areas of specialty are: individual and family consultation, conflict resolution, behavior modification, employee training and development, marketing, consumer relationships, teambuilding, management strategy and program development.
I have worked in child adolescent hospitals that assist patients with addressing diabetes, obesity, psychiatric mental disorders and various other medical conditions. I gained relevant work experience in residential treatment centers that treated deviant sexual, psychological and behavioral disabilities in adolescent boys and girls. I provided direct care support to children in acute care facilities that needed assistance addressing HIV, burn/trauma, substance abuse, schizophrenic and quadriplegic difficulties. I managed and owned a specialized foster care group home consisting of four males: one adolescent teenager and three adults. I maintained the position of case manager in several public schools assisting students with academic achievement gaps and linking them to appropriate community resources. I conducted family and individual consultation sessions with clients to address conflict and family dysfunction within the home. At times, my duties required me to advocate on behalf of the family when addressing their needs with government and state agencies.
I acquired management experience during my time as a field supervisor at a privately owned psychiatric service provider organization. I supervised more than thirty employees personally and assisted with supervision of the remaining one hundred. I managed and initiated key document changes and program initiatives within the company. I spearheaded a marketing campaign that worked extensively with the head of juvenile court services and the department of social services in Norfolk, VA. I increased client referrals for the agency two hundred and thirty-six percent during my first six months in the position.
I am instructor certified in the Handle with Care Behavior Modification System and I currently certify all company employees in the system. Employees are also trained by me in non-violent verbal de-escalation techniques in accordance with Virginia Mental Health and Substance Abuse Licensing requirements. I have experience conducting employee orientation, Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act (HIPPA) practices, leadership strategies and company documentation trainings. My additional certifications include: first aid, CPR, VA medication administration and Non-violent crisis intervention (CPI).
My additional areas of experience include: external agency collaboration, community engagement and mentorship. I have worked with at-risk, low socioeconomic status adolescents and adults for over nine years. I have assisted clients with addressing emotional, educational, transitional and vocational difficulties that they were experiencing at home, at school and in the community. I have volunteered at numerous local community events including Toys for Tots. More recently, I have extended my mentorship efforts to include Big Brother Big Sister initiative in the Greater Peninsula area. Join us next year at the “Bowl A Thon” fundraising event at the AMF Bowling Lanes in Williamsburg to benefit Big Brothers/Big Sisters of the Greater Peninsula Virginia!
